City Council voted in favor (6-0) of accepting the appointment of Joseph Molis to City Manager for the City of Lakeway at the City Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022. Joseph has been serving as Interim City Manager since early September, when Julie Oakley resigned to pursue a position with a top national accounting firm. Joseph recently served as Assistant City Manager for the City of Lakeway since late 2020.

There were more than 20 applications for City Manager received by the City of Lakeway. A subcommittee of councilmembers that included Councilmember Mastrangelo, Councilmember Kumar and Councilmember Brynteson reviewed the applications and narrowed the candidates down to seven in September. Of those seven applicants, four finalists were chosen for formal interviews with City Council and other leaders in the Lake Travis community. The final two finalists gave another formal interview with full the City Council in early November.

Prior to joining the City of Lakeway in late 2020, Joseph worked for more than a decade with the City of Harker Heights, leaving that entity as Director of Planning and Development. During that time with Harker Heights, he gained experience in urban planning, strategic planning, economic development, commercial and residential development and mapping. Joseph is a certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) and a member of the Texas State University Public Administration Advisory Board. He was raised in the Austin area and received his B.S. in Geography and Geographic Information Systems from Texas State University. In 2019, he received his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Texas State University.
