Deer Rut Season

image provided by Lakeway resident Nina Davis

Deer rut season typically runs from the beginning of October through early January. It's important to be extra cautious on area roadways this time of year, as deer may experience behavioral changes and could quickly dart into oncoming traffic. It's also important to stay clear of the deer population and avoid approaching them if they are nearby.

Also, as a friendly reminder, the feeding of deer is prohibited in the City of Lakeway. Deer corn and other food provided by humans can be an unhealthy alternative to their normal diet. It also causes deer to congregate more in populated areas, leading to the potential for damage on area properties and a hazard for drivers in the area.
