The City of Lakeway recently held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Lakeway Resort & Spa as a special thank you to our many city volunteers. The City of Lakeway has well over 100 volunteers assisting in various capacities, including serving on committees and City Council, helping cover the front desk at our various facilities and helping with our numerous events throughout the community. The special celebration included a dinner and a special awards presentation. Mayor Tom Kilgore presented three awards that evening. Here are the recipients:
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
Todd Buikema (pictured)
Todd organized regular life-saving blood drives with We Are Blood even during the pandemic when other events were shut down. He worked with the team to make sure proper health and safety protocols were in place. Our residents would consistently fill up appointments thanks to those safety practices, because they felt safe to donate this life-saving gift. Todd has also served in other capacities with the City of Lakeway, including most recently on the Charter Review Committee.
Mike Dalhauser accepted the award for the group 12:31. The Facebook group has close to 6,000 members in the Lake Travis community formed to help fellow neighbors. During the historic winter storm earlier this year, this group organized meal drop-offs for hospital staff and first responders, brought mothers formula and diapers for their babies, assisted stranded drivers, helped transport hospital staff to work, and organized water, food and emergency supply deliveries throughout the community, to name just a few.
Dave began serving in a volunteer capacity with the City of Lakeway as early as 2006. As a former city councilmember, Dave Taylor would go on to serve liaison roles for the Zoning & Planning Commission, Heritage Committee and Board of Ethics. He also served on the Arts & Beautification Committee (now, Arts Committee), Deer Management Committee (now Wildlife Committee), and the Parks & Recreation Committee. After serving on City Council, he served as chair of the Zoning & Planning Commission up until earlier this year.

The City of Lakeway was not able to host a party for our volunteers in 2020 due to the pandemic. Last year, Larry Harlan received the Volunteer of the Year Award, Carolyn Nichols received the Unsung Hero Award and Ron Massa received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Thank you again to the winners and to all of our many volunteers throughout the community. We truly appreciate all that you do in helping keep Lakeway a great place to live and work!
