The only marsupial in North America, opossums are timid and usually docile. When afraid, they will “play possum” and pretend to be dead for several hours. They eat ticks by the thousands, as well as poisonous spiders and snakes, plus small rodents. So, many Lakeway residents welcome them! Due to low body temperature, opossums do not carry rabies.
